NBA “Jam” – Billy Corgan

I couldn’t resist posting this picture.  I’m not sure if this was photoshopped or if it’s the result of entering one of NBA Jam’s famous cheat codes.  I still remember taking it to Scott Skiles with Bill and Hilary Clinton.

I love how Corgan’s first rating is “IHA” and it’s a zero.  For those of you who don’t know, James Iha was the other guitar player in the Smashing Pumpkins and pretty much the only member of the band other than Corgan who occasionally got to other than provide a back beat for Billy’s music.  When I say occasionally I mean about .5 times per album.  Billy and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain recently put out an album and started touring as the Smashing Pumpkins again, but James Iha and D’arcy didn’t join in.  Thus the IHA: 0 rating.

Note:  Billy and Jimmy have been playing together since shortly after the Pumpkins broke up in 2000.  They released an album with a couple of other guys and called themselves Zwan.  Now apparently they decided that even though they still don’t have the missing members they can become the Pumpkins again.  Oh well, I can’t say that I mind.  They’re my favorite band and Billy Corgan always did all the work anyways.

Rage: 9, Pain: 10 and Hair: 0 are obvious but still hilarious.  I find it interesting and love that he got a CLTCH: 9, but I’m not sure what to make of the STEAL: 4.  Any ideas?

  1. What does “CLTCH” mean?

  2. It means clutch. In sports being clutch is being good when it matters most, as in the end of a close game or in the playoffs.

  3. Mr. Watkins,

I’m in class right now and decided to read some of your work. Nice. Anyways, since this is a chicago team beased website I want to swutch topics and talk about the Bears for a minute. They really stink. Especially the offense. At some point don’t the Bears have to start thinking about starting Hester 30 yards behind the line of scrimage, hiking the ball to Griese, having Griese pass backwards to Hester, and then set up a blocking wall? It would be like 3 kick returns every possession. Sure, Hester would be worn out and he has fumbling problems, but that has to be better than what we have now. Right? A least maybe run that play a couple times on third and long. What do we have to loose? We are most likely punting anyways…

    Your thoughts???

  4. Oh yeah… Zeke got tagged with an 11.6 million dollar verdict. Is there any limit to Thomas’s incompetence. I think the only way it could get worse is if he goes O.J. What a putz. But turning to a Bulls perspective, this can only mean bad things. What happens if the Knicks have to go get another coach? One that is actually good. The NY pants may not be an automatic win for the Bulls.

  5. Thanks for the compliment.

I have many thoughts. Let’s start with Isiah because it’s basketball news. MSG has to pay, not Isiah, but it’s basically the same thing. It will be interesting to see if the Knicks/MSG punish him in any way or if the league punishes them in any way. I’m guessing they don’t because this all has nothing to do with action on the court and thus fans will lose interest quickly.

If Isiah were somehow to be fired or replaced I’m not worried about the Bulls losing to the Knicks. They have a lot of talent but NO chemistry. I still don’t believe Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph will ever play well together and I KNOW they will play terrible defense together (as much as I pined for Zach around the draft a couple months back). The sad thing from a Bulls perspective about Isiah ever leaving would be we could no longer fleece him in terrible and unfair trades. Sure, we’re missing Eddy Curry-style low post scoring, but I’m confident the combo we received of Tyrus and Noah will pay more dividends in the long run than Curry would have.

The Bears are in a sad, sad, sad state. Losing to the Packers and allowing Favre to go 5-0 would be inexplicably painful. I would love to see Hester take direct snaps in the backfield and make something happen. Put the punt team in and long snap it to Hester and see what happens. A bit of #23 magic would have to pay off sooner or later.

Based on what I’ve seen there’s no quick remedy for the Bears. Both QB’s have been as bad as they have because the O-line that has been so strong for years is finally a year too old and a step too slow. Benson has looked worse than he is – though I don’t think he’s that great overall – again because of the line’s poor play. Also, the receivers haven’t taken a lot of blame, but they have dropped FAR too many passes. We would have three wins now in my opinion if it weren’t for all of the drops.

Leave a comment any time! I’ll respond.

  6. Losing to the Lions had to hurt. On a side note, did you see Roy Williams’ comment that he refuses to tip the pizza guy. That, and his brother works for the secret service. Oh, yeah, and Jon Kitna is acting like the Kurt Warner Jr. and devoting this season to God and saying that God wants the Lions to win. God must hate the Bears because Urlacher slept with Paris Hilton. And Tank Johnson probably did too.

  7. My friend met Urlacher at a concert and talked to him for a while. Brian had some pretty choice words to say about Paris, but I don’t think I’ll post them on the web site.

Losing to the Lions probably would have hurt more if I could have seen the game, but I had to miss it. It also would have been more painful if we weren’t missing a boatload of pro bowlers. Injuries are a reality of the NFL and can’t be used as an excuse, but when you’re missing your entire secondary it’s going to make a difference.

I did not see Roy Williams’ comment, but crazy runs in the gatorade of Detroit athletes. I bet Roy and Sheed hang out together. I have to say that Kitna has seemed crazy to me for a while too.

Basketball anyone? Deng and Gordon need contract extensions, Noah is practicing with the first team, Skiles said lil’ Ben had the best off-season he’s ever seen a player have, big Ben was given permission to wear his headband again but so far has not done so. There’s so much Bulls going on already!!!

  8. Alright Cam. Quickly going to talk about Da Bears (or should I say Da Bums) then I am going to move onto the Baby-teen Bulls.

I am starting to lose my faith in Lovie. I don’t think he is a very good game planner. I am angry that Hester isn’t involved in every play. Aside from my long-snap idea (see above), which apparently is not original only to me, Hester is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS the fastest guy on the field. Tell me that the New England Belichicks wouldn’t game-plan him in more than four plays a game. All you need to do is run him on a fly route on almost every pass play. If the safety comes over to help, then you have taken out two defenders with one receiver, advantage Bears. If the safety doesn’t come over to help the CB, throw it really really far, because, similar to what Steve Smith told Testaverde, you can’t overthrow Hester. And, even if you do, it won’t be an interception and it spreads the D.

Let’s be serious. The Bears O sucks. It has to be creative. The whole 60% run, 40% pass game plan isn’t cutting it. The D also has been crappy, but their crappiness isn’t as palpable.

Okay, onto the Bulls. This is really an important first quarter season. We have an unsigned Gordon. We have an unsigned Deng. And, we have a bona-fide, championship hungry superstar that wants to come to Chicago in Kobe. More importantly, we have an immediate threat in the Boston Celtics Ceatles (the dumbest nickname in the history of professional anything), and the future threat of whatever team LeBron jumps ships to (maybe Chicago).

One way this whole situation could shake out is that the Bulls resign both Gordon and Deng, which we can do. The problem is we can’t do much else. Based on what I have seen so far, the Bulls will probably be good, but not great. Good-ness is what management needs because it keeps the seats full, Greatness is what fans want because it wins championships. I might be wrong. Maybe the Bulls turn the corner and are able to play perfect team basketball. Maybe Gordon or Deng or both become the superstars we need and the Bulls become insanely good.

The second way this whole thing shakes out. The Bulls are competitive, but not great. We then get rid of everything we can, with the exception of Deng, to try and get Kobe. I think a trade for Kobe is possible if Gordon is signed, with the Laker’s understanding, to an amount high enough to make the trade legal. Kobe would be a good starting point, and with Deng, Wallace, Thomas/Noah(whichever isn’t included in the trade) the Bulls would be a very talented starting group.

Finally, the Bulls could resign everyone, see how everything shakes out, risk mediocrity for the next couple years, and try to lure LeBron onto the favorite team of his childhood.

Basically, I think that these Bulls, as they are constructed now, are not going to be able to compete with a healthy Celtics or Cavs team. Certainly, the Bulls cannot compete with a healthy Suns or Rockets team. The Bulls need to either emerge from their proverbial cocoon and kick ass as a team re-born or restructure for the present or the future.

Okay class is almost over. Gotta go.
